The Spoonie Experience is a simulation designed to help people understand how individuals with disabilities navigate their daily life in regard to basic needs, work, meeting with providers, and overall wellbeing. This experience is designed to support participants in taking the perspective of an individual living with a disability. The overall goal is for participates to have a deeper level of empathy and understanding. Participants will understand barriers in treatment, daily living, and society expectations.

Anyone and everyone who is employed in a position that requires direct contact with consumers. This includes individuals working in various fields such as health care, customer service, and sales, where interaction with clients or patients is a key part of their daily responsibilities.

Emily Bliss is a licensed mental health clinician (LMHC), Assistant Program Director at a community behavioral health clinic and owner of Blissful Balance LLC. Emily’s career has been highlighted by creating robust and successful programming within the clinic to support people in the community. Emily has also worked with management staff to develop leadership skills to support the larger organization. In her free time Emily enjoys golfing (poorly) and spending time with her dog, Jeff.
Brianna Bowering works as a Certified Peer Specialist(CPS) and a Recovery Coach(RC) to support individuals in finding their personalized pathway to recovery. Brianna is also the Peer and Care Coordination Manager for the Community Behavioral Health Clinic. Brianna engages communities in training harm reduction, the proper use of Narcan. In Brianna’s free time she enjoys trying to learn about quantum physics and baking.
